Why do we serve is a question that we should ask ourselves more often. Why, you may ask, well, that is simple. Jesus stated in Mark 10: 45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." In this statement, we, as believers, should have a servant's mindset. Jesus wanted His disciples to clearly understand that it was not about who was being served but rather the servant that gains the reward in the Kingdom of God. Scripture says, "The last shall be first, and the first shall be last, in Matthew 20: 16.

It is often complicated to look at others whom you deem poor, worthless, hopeless, or even homeless as someone that God wants us to take the time to help. Surprisingly, these are the very people that God is speaking about, which also includes widows, orphans, and others who are worse off than you are. We must maintain a life of service to those who are worse off than we are ourselves.
