Anointed, but not Yet!

There are seasons in our lives when God anoints us to do something. Just because we have been anointed for that something does not mean that it is time for us to walk into the fullness of that thing. Very often, the anointing is present way before God puts you into the position to use it in its fullest capacity. Unfortunately, today we see a lot of us moving before it is time to do so, resulting in an incomplete preparation process.

For today, I am going to use David as our subject. When we look at David, we see a young man who had been anointed for a role he would not fulfill until 13 to 15 years later. Samuel had come to anoint the second king of Israel, so when he arrived at Jesse's house, the bible says in 1 Samuel 16:5b, "Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice". The only problem with that is that everyone was not there. David was not there, he was still in the fields with the sheep. It wasn't realized until verse 11, when, after Samuel had seen all the sons that were present with Jesse, he realized the king was not there.

Once David was remembered, he was anointed king. There is something to see here, that is, when God anoints you for something, it does not mean that everyone around is anointed for that thing also. They may be able to share in the benefits of that anointing, but it is not theirs. The other thing we see in the book is that David found favor with the man whom he would replace. This man loved David, then hated him, and eventually wanted to kill him. Now, in today's body, instead of allowing Saul to keep trying to take us out, we would have probably killed him first. Not David, instead of taking Saul's life, David spared it and refused to kill Saul.

He understood something very important, and that was that he valued the anointing that God had given Saul. He respected God so much that he did not do anything that would damage the one who was walking in that anointing. He waited until it was his turn and then stepped in and fulfilled the anointing he received 13-15 years earlier. So remember, just because you are anointed for something, it may not yet be time for you to walk in the fullness of it. Be patient, as the Bible says, "They that wait on the Lord" will be blessed.
